Under 9 Wootton Bassett
U9’s Wootton Bassett Festival
A big season for the U9’s as they start their first season of contact. We had a usual wet Sunday at the Wootton Bassett Festival.
The CAT’s had their first game against Bassett, and all the players got stuck in from the start. It wasn’t long before Jake went through to score the first try and the CAT’s lead 1 – 0 at half time. Bassett got their game together in the second half and struck back with 2 try’s to win the game 2 – 1.
The second game saw the CAT’s up against Corsham, and once again they all got stuck in (literally, as the soft pitch broke up). George Evans went through to score the only try of the game and give the CAT’s their first win.
In the third game the CAT’s came up against Chippenham, this was a hard fought game and Jake and George Evans both scored a try each, but Chippenham matched with 2 try’s of their own and the game finished 2 – 2.
In the final game, CAT’s were up against Devizes. With Devizes needing to win the game to win the competition, they started quickly with some good passing and went 1 – 0 up. An incident then followed which highlighted the danger of wearing hoodies as a Devizes player was dragged back by the hood. In the second half the CAT’s fought back with some great passing of their own, as Haydon produced a great offload to Jake, who went on to score the equalising try in the corner. The game finished 1 – 1 and the CAT’s finished a very respectable 3rd in the competition.
